Chair Design

Picture
Final Chair-Full Scale
Project Type: Furniture Design and Construction
Project Goals and Concept: The goal of this project was to design and build a chair in order to understand the process of furniture design. The Sweet Pea, an adaption of the winged arm chair, is designed for someone of petite stature. Inspired by the sweet pea flower, the chair takes on many of its characteristics. It uses the subtle curves of the petals throughout the piece, and flowering vines embellish the back. The flower itself, has a deeper meaning to the designer. What started as a symbol of childhood, both literally and symbolically, became a permanent reminder of the idea of growth, happiness, and eternal friendship.
Software/Tools: AutoCAD, basswood models, walnut, wood burner.
