Project Type: School-Commercial Group Project
Project Goals and Concept: From the beginning, the design needed to revolve around providing the necessities for its users and educating them on basic information that they need to help them get off the street and excel in the future. The facility will lay the foundation for the users, so they won’t live the rest of their lives without a home. A cornerstone is a foundation block in a wall that is a starting point for the construction of a building, which became the inspiration behind the name of the facility; Cornerstone Youth Center. The goal of the Cornerstone Youth Center is to provide a safe and healthy environment that allows the children and teens to clean up, relax, and have fun. Also, there will be participation opportunities within the center that will teach them about running or working for a business and being responsible for another living thing. The design of the space utilizes durable materials that can withstand heavy traffic, weathering, and are easy to clean. The products used to decorate the space are innovative, sustainable, and affordable, which eliminates the hassle of needing to maintain a nice new material. Yellow and blue are used throughout the space to create an atmosphere that promotes happiness and peace, which will positively impact the moods of the Software: REVIT, Lumion, Photoshop, InDesign |
Security is important for the staff and the children at the youth center. There will be security cameras in the
outdoor area, the front entrance, and the quiet room that will be monitored by the administration at all times. The front desk keeps track of who enters and exits the building.
Render done by Elizabeth McDonald.
The shower rooms are all ADA accessible with roll in shower stalls. Each space is private and includes a shower,
toilet, sink and a place to put personal items. The shower stalls have built in soap, shampoo, and conditioner
dispensers. In the common space of each of the restrooms is a place to grab clean towels, put dirty towels, and toiletries that the users can take for themselves.
